Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show which kicks off at 8 am this morning on TSN 1290 Winnipeg.  We will talk World Cup of Hockey and Jets YoungStars Tournament.  Guests:  Paul Edmonds (TSN 1290 Winnipeg), Scott Powers (Staff writer covering the Blackhawks) and Daniel Berthume (former Jets 1.0 goalie).

Afternoon Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  De Leo won’t be denied.  He is always quite a good interview, really never shying away from sharing his thoughts.  Ken brings you more on this Jets prospect from B.C.

TSN:  Byfuglien scratch raises eyebrows for Team USA. (Video).  Even though it is just game 1 there will be plenty of commentary if Team USA doesn’t beat Team Europe today.  Includes video of Tortorella’s presser.

Winnipeg Free Press: Young Phillips could be great find in Jets’ net. (Paywall).  In our interview with Paul Edmonds today he certainly sounded quite impressed by the play of the netminder in game one of the YoungStars tournament.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Defenceman Kostalek is fast, but not very big.  (Paywall).  In an instant gratification society it is sometimes difficult to wait for players to develop.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Tracking down Buff, Trouba and Laine — by planes, trains and automobile.  (Paywall).  Lots of Jets players playing in the World Cup of Hockey and Paul attempts to track some down.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets Connor, Roslovic shine in loss to Flames.  Ken breaks down the game and lets you know who he thought stood out.  I thought it was interesting that Lemieux and Tkachuk fought in the 1st period.  Got me thinking if their NHL playing fathers even went toe to toe and they did in the 1996 World Cup as USA took on Canada.  Guess history really can repeat itself.

TSN:  Five questions for Jets rookies in Penticton.  Paul is out in B.C. and has these five questions: 1) Which prospect has a chance to play in the NHL this year? 2) How good is Logan Stanley?  3) What’s in the goaltending cupboard? 4) What’s that sound? 5) Which player will surprise at this tournament?

Global News:  Bobby Hull won’t attend Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame ceremony.  Seems like there is still going to be plenty of outrage over his not attending the ceremony, not because he doesn’t plan on coming, but because he was nominated in the first place.

Yahoo Sports (Puck Daddy):  Blake Wheeler doesn’t want ads tarnishing NHL jerseys.  Doesn’t come as a surprise that the captain doesn’t like the idea of advertising on jerseys.  He’s mentioned in the past how it would tarnish the jersey.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Donvito Roundtable.  Former Dallas Stars Assistant GM Frank Provenzano discusses contract negotiations between the Jets and Jacob Trouba and how NHL Front Offices use analytics.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Donvito Roundtable.  Dan Rosen of NHL.com discusses Patrik Laine’s adjustment to the North American Ice after three pretournament World Cup Games and previews the World Cup of Hockey.

TSN 1040 Vancouver:  The Bro Jake Show.  GM Kevin Cheveldayoff says all the talk that they were looking at drafting someone not named Patrik Laine was just that – talk. He adds that the World Cup of Hockey experience will help the Jets players that are there because it will be a memory they can draw back on when the playoffs come around.
