Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets and Moose news.

Note:  While I thought Friday might conclude without much action as we slipped into the weekend the Scheifele signing changed everything. Hear the conference call with with Mark Scheifele followed by one with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff who spoke for almost 12 minutes.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets debunk ‘cheapskate’ tag.  (Paywall).  Good column from Paul and rather enjoyed the couch/loveseat analogy.

Winnipeg Free Press:  This is Cederholm’s first rodeo, and he’s loving it.  (Paywall).  You got a sense of his excitement he was feeling when he shook all of our hands in Buffalo right after he was drafted by Winnipeg.

Jacob Cederholm stretching

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets centre signs eight-year, $49-M deal.  (Paywall).  Just when you thought you could slip into the weekend and relax we get some late breaking Friday afternoon news.  Certainly Jets fans everywhere were excited to hear about the first Winnipeg draft pick in 2011 signing long term with this franchise.

Winnipeg Sun:  Scheifele signs 8-year deal.  There was plenty of speculation as to how long a deal would get done between the Jets and Scheifele and it sounds like both sides were excited to go for the full eight years.

Illegal Curve:  Prospect Update.  A look at what prospects Sami Niku, Pavel Kraskovsky, Mikhail Berdin & Marcus Karlstrom were up to last year and what they have planned for next season.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Travis Yost joins Andrew Paterson and discusses Mark Scheifele’s new contract, Nathan McKinnon’s new contract and Mathieu Perreault’s contract extension.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Donvito Roundtable.  Dennis Beyak and Brian Munz discuss the week of Jets Development Camp and Mathieu Perreault’s contract extension.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Donvito Roundtable.  Jimmy Roy, Winnipeg Jets Coordinator of Player Development recapped the week of Development Camp with Brian Munz.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show.  Manitoba Moose GM and assistant GM of the Winnipeg Jets Craig Heisinger joined The Big Show to discuss the signing of Mathieu Perreault, broke down Jets Development Camp and looked ahead to the upcoming season for the Moose and Jets.

Moose news:

Illegal Curve:  AHL will have some new rules for the 2016-17 season.  Plenty of new rules will be implemented next season.  I’m a big fan of home teams wearing both their light and dark jerseys during the year.

Illegal Curve:  Brenden Kitchton signed for one year.  I have him or Julian Melchiori as my guesses for Moose captain next season.  Kitchton is an interesting interview who never shies away from questions post-game.

Moose audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Donvito Roundtable.  David Andrews, President and CEO of the AHL speaks to Brian Munz about the past AHL season, the Board of Governors meetings and the new rules regarding fighting.

Should he stay or should he go? Lambert's fate in his own hands. Big Bad Brad has speed to kill. Projecting the Jets opening-night lineup: Dressed, scratched or on the bubble?

The Jets and Moose will hit the ice later this morning for training camp out at the IcePlex.

Kick start your day with all the latest Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose and Winnipeg Ice news, notes and video.
