Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  The Jets will hit the ice this morning for a practice before the team departs for Michigan.  They will take on the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena tomorrow night on their one game road trip.

Note II:  Moose look to get some revenge in a re-match against the Iowa Wild tonight at the MTS Centre.  All eyes will be on practice today as we look to get an update on the status of Josh Morrissey who left Monday’s game in the 3rd period after sustaining a lower body injury in the 2nd period.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Fans can see bright future ahead.  The Jets bench boss knows that it will likely be his head on the chopping block if he and his GM chose the wrong path.  Right now the fan base is buying what the coach is selling.  We shall see if it was a smart investment.

Globe and Mail:  Jets’ ‘hockey nerd’ centre Scheifele approaches game like a science.  He is always the last guy off the ice during warm ups and you can see his dedication to all facets of the game off the ice as well.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Failure to cope with challenges again sinks chance at win.  (Paywall).  Full recap of the contest.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Kosmachuk doesn’t look out of place in his first NHL game.  (Paywall).  He looked solid in his NHL debut.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Heritage Classic will be ‘like a mini-Super Bowl’ for businesses.  (Paywall).  Pretty cool that the hotels are selling out already.  It is certainly going to be a weekend to remember in Manitoba.

Winnipeg Sun:  Stafford shows he’s got something left in Jets loss to Predators.  You really get the sense that a player like Drew Stafford is taking these losses quite personally.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets version of March Madness.  It is unusual to see the Jets holding try outs with some of the young prospects from down on the farm while other teams are tooling up for playoff runs.

Winnipeg Sun:  Kosmachuk makes NHL debut for Jets.  While he didn’t get a win in his debut it was clear following the game that it was an experience of a lifetime.  One that he hopes to continue for the Jets more and more this season.

Sportsnet:  Scheifele tries to duck Weber hit.  (Video).  It is never pleasant to be on the receiving end of a Shea Weber hit and from our perspective in the press box it seemed like Scheifele would be down for awhile.  He got up, went to the Jets room but returned soon thereafter much to the relief of Jets fans everywhere.

CBC:  What a difference 47 days can make.  Hard to believe it was all so close but fell off the rails so quickly.

Globalnews.ca:  “These guys make bad calls” Jets upset with officiating following 4-2 loss.  Pretty clear that players weren’t happy with the officiating after the game.  While they didn’t want to get fined their displeasure was obvious.

The Tennessean:  Predators roll on with win over Jets.  Read about the game from an opposition beat writer’s perspective.
