Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  Waking up this morning really has one wondering was anything about yesterday real?  To recap we began the day with news that Bryan Little was done for the season, Andrew Ladd was scratched a few hours before the game against the Stars, then traded to the Chicago Blackhawks and the day ended with the last in the Central Jets knocking off a Stars team that is tops in the Western Conference.  Didn’t anticipate that when I woke up on Thursday.

Note II:  The Jets are scheduled to hit the ice today in Pittsburgh and practice at Consol Energy Center.  Expect more Ladd trade reaction.

Note III:  The Moose have a pair of contests this weekend and will get ready with a practice at the MTS Centre this morning.  They take on the Charlotte Checkers tomorrow at 7 pm and then Sunday at 2 pm.  The Moose were also impacted by the trade as veterans Matt Fraser (44 games 5 goals 9 assists) and Jay Harrison (18 games 3 goals 2 assists) will head to Rockford to play for the Hawks AHL affiliate IceHogs.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Chicago Blackhawks senior advisor for Hockey Operations Scotty Bowman joins Hustler & Lawless to discuss Chicago’s side of the Andrew Ladd trade. Bowman explains why Ladd was appealing for his old team, and what the Blackhawks are giving up in Marko Dano.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  No shortage of drama in Jets 6-3 win against Stars.  (Paywall).  Well the kids are alright if you were worried.  Mark Scheifele had four points for the first time and tied his best goal performance of his career (15) with a number of games to go, Joel Armia had two goals and one assist (including one that could be highlight of the year material), Nikolaj Ehlers had two assists and Jacob Trouba one goal and one assist.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Ladd says ‘Chicago was at the top of my list’.  (Paywall).  If you have the option to go to a Stanley Cup contender always better to go somewhere you already have roots set down.

Winnipeg Free Press:  If I were Andrew Ladd… (Paywall).  Former NHL player turned writer Scott Campbell puts himself into the shoes (or skates) and tries to think like Andrew Ladd as we say goodbye to the Jets  former captain.

Ladd salutes the crowd

Winnipeg Sun:  Fifth time the charm for Jets with Stars.  When the Jets got off to a three goal lead after the 1st period many were scratching their heads thinking “where has this team been all season?”.  Of course when Dallas scored three consecutive goals many thought the answer was “right in front of you”.  But then the team somehow pulled off a 6-3 win with a big 3rd period.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets trade Ladd to Blackhawks.  Chicago GM Stan Bowman was in Winnipeg on Tuesday and perhaps he had a gleam in his eye as he saw his future left winger score a shorthanded goal against these same Stars.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets lose Bryan Little for season.  While you may be able to shoehorn a player or two in temporarily it will be very difficult to lose a number one centre and compete on a nightly basis.

CBC:  Andrew Ladd trade about the future, no surprise there.  Renovation or rebuild it seems like semantics at this point with everything that happened yesterday.  Feels like just yesterday we were on a tarmac for the Jets jersey reveal and the captain was popping out of the back of a plane wearing his Jets 2.0 jersey with a C on it.

CBC:  Winnipeggers thank Andrew Ladd as Jets captain traded to Blackhawks.  He was the first player to come to the city, gave it his seal of approval and established a relationships with fans both on and off the ice.

Jets official site:  Joel Armia shows off his Finnish with second goal of game.  (GIF).  I’ve seriously watched this goal like 50 times.  Expect that one to win the TSN Highlight of the Night.

TSN:  Bold Bowman wants to seize another Cup.  Would make for quite the legacy if he can pull off his fourth Stanley Cup in the last seven seasons.  Gary writes about why this Ladd deal may help to put the Hawks over the top.

TSN:  Dano is a solid prospect for Jets.  (Video).  Marko Dano has now been traded twice in one calendar year, TSN Director of Scouting believes the Jets are getting a solid prospect to help them in the future.

TSN:  This is a win-win for the Blackhawks and Jets.  (Video).  The Jets had to make a tough decision to deal their captain Andrew Ladd, but as the TSN Hockey Panel explains, the trade benefits all parties involved. The panel also speculates where Ladd fits in with Chicago and how the Jets can use Marko Dano.

TSN:  Winnipeg – One step back, two steps forward? (Video).  TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button provides his Interim Report Cards.

ESPN:  Trade Grade – Ladd to the Hawks.  (Paywall).  Reaction to the trade.

Illegal Curve:  With Andrew Ladd traded who should wear the “C” for the Winnipeg Jets?  While the question seems to be a forgone conclusion from fans perspective..cough cough Wheeler but will it happen this season or next?

AHL Web site:  Jets acquire Dano in Ladd deal.  I really hope he sticks in the roster simply because we were told by Columbus fans that they started a tradition of one end of arena chanting “Marko” and the other side saying “Dano”.  I even found myself saying it out loud last night.  Anyways a bit of info on the 2013 1st round pick.
