Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  The Jets will hit the ice again at the MTS Centre for a second straight day of practice.  Sure sounds like special teams will be the focus based on coach Maurice’s comments yesterday.  Captain Andrew Ladd and Tobias Enstrom, who took maintenance days on Wednesday, are expected back on the ice today.

Note II:  The Moose are back from their AHL All-Star break and will hit the ice for a tough tilt against a very good Toronto Marlies squad.  Puck drops at 7 pm at the MTS Centre.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Little struggling to find his groove with only one goal in 15 games for Jets.  (Paywall).  With all the looks/chances he gets in a game it is easy to forget that he hasn’t found the back of the net much of late.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Penalty-killing unit top priority for Jets coach.  (Paywall).  The coach certainly took it all upon himself in his media chat.

Winnipeg Sun:  Slumping Little trying to stay positive.  Feels like this happens to him once per season and he usually breaks out of it.

Winnipeg Sun:  Coach Maurice takes blame for Jets penalty killing woes.  When you are the most penalized team in the league and your penalty kill is 27th out of 30 teams that is not a recipe for success.

Winnipeg Sun:  How the Jets draft picks stack up against the rest of the NHL.  Ted took a look at how Winnipeg has done in the five years of drafting.

The Hockey News:  Trade dominoes will fall once Jets decide what to do with Byfuglien, Ladd.  And so the hockey world collectively waits!

USA Today:  Dustin Byfuglien leads list of top 11 players who could be dealt before NHL trade deadline.  Not a surprise that he and Andrew Ladd are both on this list.

Illegal Curve:  Jets Practice Report.  A look at what was happening on the ice at the MTS Centre yesterday during practice.  Also includes audio from Bryan Little and Mark Scheifele.

Jets audio:

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice scrum.  Maintenance for Ladd/Enstrom?  What does he do today after they lost a close game last night?  Any thoughts on the Wideman suspension?  Is there something he is seeing in Bryan Little’s game that is keeping the good scoring chances out of the net?  Always seems to be something doing with this club.  What is the main takeaway from last night?  Where does the PK rank in list of importance?  Who is in charge of it?  What is wrong with it?  Did he see McDavid’s goal?  On the Jets power play.
