Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets and Moose news.

Note: Both the Jets and Moose were victorious on Tuesday night, both on the strength of their goalies.  Hellebuyck made 43 saves in a 4-1 win in Nashville over the Predators.  Comrie made 37 saves in a 2-1 win in Winnipeg over the Griffins.

Note II:  The Moose will hold an outdoor practice at Southdale Community Centre at 6 pm tonight which will be followed by an autograph signing session for fans.

Note III:  Tune into the first NHL This Week of 2016 on TSN 1290 Winnipeg starting at 6 pm as the guys look back at the Jets win over Nashville, ahead to the game tomorrow night against the Dallas Stars and take a look around the NHL.  Joining them to talk about his life in and out of the game will be former NHLer Sheldon Kennedy.

Jets news:

Sportsnet:  Top 16 UFAs.  The Jets UFAs rank 3rd (Byfuglien) and 7th (Ladd) on this list.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets coach has plenty of praise for rookie goalie.  (Paywall).  When you have a player whose performance is directly attributable to the win and your team gaining on your rival, it is hard not to heap loads of praise on him.

Hellebuyck in ready pose

Winnipeg Free Press:  Hellebuyck does it again as Jets ride hot goalie past Predators.  (Paywall).   He is not playing like a rookie as he continues to demonstrate poise and an even keel attitude that is serving him well during this call up with the big club.

Winnipeg Sun:  Hellebuyck shines in huge win.  He was simply sensational as he faced shot after shot after shot and stood tall making all but one save in a huge central division victory that the Jets desperately needed.

CBC:  Hellebuyck’s play puts Cheveldayoff on hot seat.  As the rookie netminder adds win after win to the Jets standings bank he is perhaps making it more and more difficult for the Jets GM to make a decision as to what he is going to do with Ladd and Byfuglien.

The Tennessean:  5 takeaways from Predators’ loss to Jets.  Read about the game from an opposition beat writer.

Metro News:  #TrackSuitNight encourages Jets-Sabres rivalry.  Hate to be a Debbie Downer but this entire thing seems kinda stupid to me.  Makes Winnipeg seem petty.  But that’s just my opinion.

Sportsnet:  Kane’s trip back (video).  Evander Kane discusses his upcoming trip back to Winnipeg, which will be his first since the controversy surrounding his trade, and says it should be… entertaining.

Jets 4 Predators 1:

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice post-game.  Describing the play of Hellebuyck’s game this evening.  What did the play of Hellebuyck do for the bench? Perfect example of weathering the storm?  What did he like about the power play?

Moose news:

Illegal Curve:  Comrie backstops Moose to 2-1 win over Griffins.  Includes key plays of game, top Moose & post-game audio (Coach McCambridge, Eric Comrie, Josh Morrissey & Patrice Cormier).

Global News:  Moose ground Griffins for tenth win of the season.  In front of almost 6000 fans (which is impressive considering they were up against the Jets) Manitoba goalie Eric Comrie had an impressive 37 save performance which all but guaranteed a victory for the home team.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Moose grind out improbable win over Griffins.  (Paywall).  Aside from a poor 2nd period it was a much better performance on Tuesday night than what fans saw on Sunday when the Moose were pummeled by Grand Rapids.
