Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Hellebuyck has everyone’s hopes up. (Paywall). Fans have been anointing him the ‘goalie of the future, today’ and after three straight wins including a very good one over an extremely skilled Capitals team the fan base excitement is only increasing.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets topple Caps after long-drawn-out goal review. (Paywall). The challenge is still a relatively new feature of the NHL and it certainly caught the assembled media by surprise. With the Jets celebrating the OT “goal” we gathered outside the room for interviews. Problem was the challenge process went on and on and on. We eventually could tell it was ruled a good goal since the roar of the MTS Centre crowd was very audible in the bowels of the MTS Centre.
Winnipeg Sun: Three for a Buyck. While the rookie isn’t one given to being very demonstrative with his emotions it was clear that save he made on TJ Oshi late in the 3rd was one that would make even him smile. He faced an immensely talented Capitals team and as has become the norm only allowed one goal against.
Sportsnet: Jets and Trouba won’t discuss extension until off-season. Doesn’t sound like this is anything too major. Perhaps just getting out in front of it before it becomes a big story. He had quite a game last night.
Sportsnet: Stock Exchange – Jets escape by the blade of the skate. (video). P.J. Stock and George Stroumboulopoulos analyze the Winnipeg Jets’ controversial overtime goal against the Washington Capitals.
CBC: Video review on the fritz. Lots of talk about refining the process as the new rule comes under intense scrutiny, especially when points are at such a premium.
Washington Post: Capitals’ win streak halted at six as Jets finally solve Holtby in OT, 2-1. Read about the game from a Capitals beat writer’s perspective.
Washington Post: Barry Trotz has yet to win a coach’s challenge this season. And despite his ties to Manitoba I am quite sure Jets fans were happy to see that streak continue yesterday at the MTS Centre.
