Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Hutchinson is focused on ice in front of him.  (Paywall). Always important to have an even temperament so you can handle the highs and probably even more so the lows of being a professional athlete.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets’ line retooling to continue. (Paywall)  Now that we are close to the regular season roster coach Maurice is finally getting to tinker with his lines so he can properly assess his troops.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets rookie centre Petan is a top-flight fourth-liner. (Paywall)  He has shown that he has the skills and grit to play so far with the big boys and he continues to quietly go about his business as he tries to let his play on the ice speak loudly for him off it.

Winnipeg Free Press:  NHL’s new coach’s challenge rule has yet to see play, but it could have impact. (Paywall)  Coach Maurice had quite a bit to say about the new rule.

Winnipeg Sun:  Petan making strong case.  It would be difficult to not see him on the team at this point.

Sportsnet:  Who could upset McDavid for the Calder? The Jets top pick in 2014 cracked the list.

CBC:  Senators to be billed for police escort to Jets matchup.  Would this be the first time a Senator from Ottawa actually paid a bill?

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler & Lawless.  Dennis Beyak discusses the final third of Winnipeg Jets training camp. Beyak outlines where the competition is for the final few slots on the Jets roster.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show.  After scoring four unanswered goals to earn their first victory of the pre-season, Paul Edmonds joined the show to expand on the Jets’ breakout performer, Nic Petan who stated his case for a roster spot despite not registering on the score sheet.

Day 13 Training Camp:

Illegal Curve:  Jets re-assign Connor Hellebuyck to Manitoba Moose.  He will have the opportunity to play quite a bit in the AHL as he furthers his development.

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice scrum.  (audio).   What does Nic Petan bring to the 4th line that they haven’t had in the past?  Is there a change on the way 4th lines are being used in the NHL?  Is it exciting to have a mix of veterans/prospects or is it a challenge?  Is it too soon to say Nic Petan has made the team?  Has he seen enough from Ladd/Little/Burmistrov or work in progress?  Hasn’t tinkered with Wheeler/Scheifele/Stafford, does that tell us something?  How does your identity change when the skill set of the personalities change?  Does he have to adjust his game plan based on the skill on the roster?  Has he noticed a difference in Hutchinson this training camp?  How important is it to have a level headed backup goalie?  How does he approach the ‘coach’s challenge?

Illegal Curve:  Player scrums.  (audio).  Hear from Nic Petan, Bryan Little and Ondrej Pavelec.

Moose news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Moose coach back on home turf.  (Paywall).  He is a highly regarded coach who was seen as someone who was considered to be on the prospective NHL coaching radar.  He has done quite a bit with the Jets AHL team and it should be interesting to see what the Manitoba native has in store for this season.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Morrissey turns the page, jazzed to be at Moose camp.  (Paywall).  While it isn’t easy for a young prospect, especially one that is highly touted, to be sent to the AHL the seasoning can only serve him well.
