Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  As part of the Pass It Forward program, donate used hockey gear to Perth’s Drycleaners during the month of September! They are a charitable program working to outfit deserving youth in equipment.  Read more about the program here.

Note II:  The Jets remain winless in pre-season action and will try and change that when they take on the Senators tonight at the MTS Centre with a 7 pm puck drop.  Be sure to keep it locked to illegalcurve.com and on social media including Twitter | Facebook | Instagram for the latest Jets news pre and post game.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  It’s crunch time for Jets’ prospects still in camp.  (Paywall).  Not many spots left and not much time either.  Should be an interesting week around Jets training camp.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Pavelec still No. 1 puck stopper for Jets.  (Paywall).  He was pushed hard throughout the season from rookie Michael Hutchinson but finished the season as the Jets top goalie.  As Gary writes he enters another season as the #1 tender for Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Sun:  Lemieux made big impression on Winnipeg Jets but age worked against him.  You got the sense that coach Maurice was impressed by the play of the young prospect but that he felt he still required some seasoning before he would be ready for prime time.

Winnipeg Sun:  Bubble boys Raffl, Petan and Lipon appear to be competing for final roster spot with Jets.  I’m trying to work in a Moops joke (Seinfeld Bubble Boy episode) but I got nothing.

Winnipeg Sun:  Trouba’s goals will make difference off the ice, too.  Very cool way to raise money for a worthwhile charity.

The Hockey News:  Meet Nic Petan – Hockey’s newest fourth-line specialist.  The Jets 4th line could sure be interesting this year.

Illegal Curve:  Lines from practice.  With just 27 players left on the roster we are starting to get a better idea of how this team may be composed at the start of the regular season.

Illegal Curve:  A look at the remaining 27 players.  After the Jets made the 16 cuts yesterday we are now down to 15 forwards, 9 defencemen and 3 goalies.

NHL.com:  Jets’ success depends on progress of young players.  If you look at the players left there are some spots open to these young guns.

NHL.com:  Goaltending, youth movement among Jets’ X-factors.   I missed this article from Patrick as well as the one above.  Both good reads from him.

Day 11 audio:

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice audio:  On the re-assignments and specifically the play of Brendan Lemieux.   His biggest advice for the players on the bubble as they get their final chance to show what they can do.  What are his top priorities for the final week of training camp?  Does having the AHL team in their backyard make these decisions easier?  The advantages/disadvantages of having an AHL squad present.  Lipon/Raffl/Petan – what got them this far?  Has Lipon played his way onto his radar?  How the players remaining fit within the Jets system.  Anyone not available due to injury?

Illegal Curve:  Player audio:  To hear from JC Lipon, Thomas Raffl, Nic Petan and Blake Wheeler.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Rona Roundtable.  Shane Hnidy looks back on the weekend of Winnipeg Jets exhibition games and discusses the recent cuts from training camp.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show.  Dennis Beyak broke down Winnipeg’s 8-1 blowout loss in Minnesota on Sunday including Paul Maurice’s post-game comments, Josh Morrisey’s game and why a pair of Jet forward prospects need to deliver more in the final week of the pre-season.
