Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  Jets fans are feeling a bit down following the 4-2 loss in the first playoff game for this re-born franchise.  The team returns to practice today in Southern California before tomorrow night’s Game 2 action.

Jets news:

TSN:  C’Mon Ref -Should Perry’s second goal have counted?  While it is too little too late to change the impact of the goal, for those of you interested in what the correct ruling should have been on the ice, former NHL referee Kerry Fraser provides this insight.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Penalties shot down the Jets, players and coach admit.  Unfortunately for the team that word ‘discipline’ or in this case a lack thereof crept back into the equation and the team got burnt.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Halischuk defies beard tradition.  Let’s hope that fans don’t start blaming Halischuk for the loss.  I’m not a fan of believing in superstitions and I’m glad to see I am not the only one.

Winnipeg Free Press:  It will work in Winnipeg: Chipman and Co. set to contend for a long time.  While long term vision is great and smart from a business point of view (why have one year of playoffs when you can have multiple) that isn’t always an easy approach for fans to accept.  For the most part however folks in this town have bought into the plan.

Winnipeg Sun:  Ducks draw first blood in the series.  Perry and Getzlaf are such a dynamic duo and Jets fans saw that first hand last night.  Ken breaks down the action from Southern California in this column.

Winnipeg Sun:  Series not for the faint of heart.  As Paul writes this is going to be a war of attrition throughout as both teams make the other pay for every inch of ground they gain.  While it may be tough on the players fans have to love this type of smashmouth hockey.

Globe and Mail:  Winnipeg Jets show deeply troubling signs in losing Game 1.  The numbers and penalties don’t speak very well about the game Winnipeg had been playing prior to the playoffs.  I suspect we will see a different team for Game 2.

Globe and Mail:  Underdog Jets drop Game 1 to powerhouse Ducks.  For the first couple of periods Jets fans had to like the way their team was playing for the most part.

National Post:  Jets lose their cool as Ducks smash and crash their way to Game 1 win.  Important to remember that these Ducks can fly and have been doing so in and out of the post season for quite some time.

Orange County Register:  Just another razor thin win for the Ducks.  They have been winning close games all season long.  Read a recap from a beat writer that cover Anaheim for the perspective from the other side.

Sportsnet:  Wheeler knocks down Stoner after buzzer (video).  Big #26 was in a foul mood following the final buzzer and sent a little message to the other side.  Very rare to see him getting that worked up.

CBC:  Jets fans take in historic playoff game in Anaheim.  As I tweeted out last night they should have changed the name from Honda Center to Honda Centre with so many Jets fans in the building.

Round 1 Game 1 – Ducks 4 Jets 2:

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice post-game press conference.  What was it about the Ducks power play that gave them such trouble?  Was it a case of not getting a full 60 minute effort of the team?  What was his impression of the game and what went wrong for them tonight?  On the emotional swings in a playoff series, how do you keep it in perspective?  How does he feel his top players performed tonight?  Can he fix the power play without Mathieu Perreault?  How disappointing/disheartening was the penalty taken at the end of the 2nd period?  Any concern with playoff inexperience hindering them in the 3rd period?
