Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  If you are looking at last night’s score and feeling some Déjà vu fear not as once again the Jets beat a tough central division rival and Ondrej Pavelec pulled off another impressive shutout performance.  The team left Missouri for Colorado last night with another two points in the standings bank and a chance to secure a playoff spot with a win against the Avalanche on Thursday night.  Sportsclubstats now has Jets playoff chances at 93%.  If Calgary beats LA tomorrow or if the Jets win against Colorado they will make the playoffs for first time since relocation and just second time in franchise history.

Note II:  As of right now the Jets are scheduled to practice at 2 pm in Denver.  Be sure to keep it locked to @illegalcurve for the latest Jets news.

Games of significance last night:  Wild won.  Flames won.  Kings lost.

Games of significance tonight:  None.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Unlikely hero: Blues done in by a guy with seven goals.  Scoreburn is a pretty clever little construct by Adam Lowry about #22.  Not many would have predicted that the larger than life winger would pick up the most important game winning goal of his career.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Four heaven’s sake!   The word ‘depth’ has been creeping into more and more conversations about the Jets.  Coach Maurice is finally confident rolling his four lines and Gary writes how having four lines to use is helping this team get to the next level.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Pavelec stones Blues to inch Jets closer to glory.  He has been simply sensational and while his detractors are waiting for him to come back down to earth he is showing no signs of slowing down as he helps the Jets secure win after win.

Winnipeg Sun:  Pavelec posts second straight shutout as Jets blank Blues 1-0.  Once again pens a great column breaking down the huge victory he witnessed yesterday at Scottrade Center.

Sportsnet:  Questionable Stastny penalty costs Blues in loss.  Seems to be some dispute as to whether the call was a good one or not.  I suspect depending on what jersey you are wearing is how you would decide whether it was a penalty or not.

Sportsnet:  Ondrej Pavelec leading Jets, but do you trust him?  The question remains from many on the outside who are waiting for the bubble to burst.  Do you have faith in him or is this simply another streak that will lead to future disappointment?

St. Louis Post-Dispatch:  Blues win streak ends with 1-0 loss to Winnipeg.  Always good to read how the other side saw the game and Jeremy Rutherford pens this article about the way the Blues saw this game.

Globe and Mail:  Flames, Jets just one win away from post-season play.  How many people could reasonably say they would have ever predicted that headline at the start of the year?  The always worthwhile Eric Duhatschek with his thoughts on these two squads.

CBC:  Pavelec shutout propels Jets past Blues.   Another rock solid performance by the Jets #1 netminder.

CBC:  Jets fans feel the stress as team makes playoff push.   This article came out before the unexpected victory over the Blues but I suspect until the Jets are officially in the post season many fans in Manitoba will be stressing out.

Jets 1 Blues 0:

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice post-game (audio).  Assessing the win.   What has he seen from Pavelec?   Does it mean a bit more given what happened in this building the last time?  Was that a playoff feel from tonight’s game?  His take on the hits on Stuart and Perreault.   Has this team learned how to win?  Getting off to a fast start.  Lose Byfuglien/Enstrom folks thought they were in trouble but they keep winning.  On the team meshing.

Jets prospect news:

The Chronicle Herald:  Mooseheads move on as Ehlers scores winner in Game 7 overtime thriller.  While Jets fans are focused squarely on their team making the NHL playoffs, 2014 first round pick Nikolaj Ehlers was a major factor in getting his team to the next round.  Halifax had 19 goals in their first round series. Nikolaj Ehlers had a hand in 15 of them.

Oregon Live:  Nic Petan’s OT winner sends Winterhawks to 2nd round vs. Everett.  A second Jets prospect was helping his junior team advance to the next round of the playoffs as the Jets 2013 2nd rounder scored the series winning goal in overtime.
