Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  You don’t like to use the term ‘must win’ but the Jets certainly need to leave Sunrise with two points in the bank tonight as game three of this four game road trip gets underway at 6:30 pm.

Note II:  Be sure to stick with us throughout the day for the latest game day news including tonight’s projected lines, coach Maurice’s post-practice scrum, a game preview and more.  As always be sure to follow us on @illegalcurve for notifications.

Games of significance last night:  Flames won.

Games of significance tonight:  Kings (@ Canucks).  Sharks (vs. Preds).

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Rattled Jets need to stick with Hutch.  Neither goalie has been particularly strong since the All-Star break (both under .885 save %) but Gary writes that the team would be better off sticking with the rookie netminder who they have ridden harder since January 27th  as opposed to a hasty call up of AHL sensation Connor Hellebuyck.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Defiant Pavelec ready to move on after allowing fluke game-winner.  Having some confidence left is probably a good thing if the Jets need to turn to him at some point in the season.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets goalie says he ‘lost the puck in the stands’.  After making 19 straight saves the toughest one proved to be the final one.  He faced the music with the media on a day the team cancelled on ice practice.

Winnipeg Sun:  Big question for Winnipeg Jets – What to do with Ondrej Pavelec?  With many fans in Jets ville having moved on from the long time Jets #1, Paul writes about the options the Jets have moving forward including: 1) Trade him 2) Buy him out and 3) Keep him.

Winnipeg Sun:  Ondrej Pavelec trying to turn the page after giving up heartbreaking goal.  Ken writes about the fire still being in the Jets goalie’s belly as he felt the heat of the questions about ‘the goal’.

Illegal Curve:  Which goalie will Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice start against the Panthers?  That is the $64,000.00 question right now as fans wonder who will give this team the best chance to pick up an important win.  Fear not as the answer will be as clear to Jets fans as it apparently is to coach Maurice in a few hours.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler & Lawless.  Hockey Insider Darren Dreger talks about the Jets loss in St Louis. Dreger says that, despite a bad goal allowed for a loss late in the season, Ondrej Pavelec can be a valuable goalie for the Jets.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler & Lawless.  Jamie McLennan reviews the Jets goaltending performance in St Louis. McLennan says Ondrej Pavelec has to be focused on plays like that, but that the entire goaltending corps let the team down in St. Louis. McLennan also argues Pavelec still has value in the Jets room, and that Michael Hutchinson will be under increased pressure during this playoff push.

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice scrum from Florida.  Difficult to let last night go?  Seems to be reluctant to let it go, does he want to use it as motivation?  What are some of the things that got them back into the game?  On the team going away from what they have done well in the past.  On the way he handled it this morning with the team this morning.  His thoughts on the Panthers.  His starting goalie tomorrow?  Did the events of last night make it more difficult to pick a starting goalie for Thursday?  On Frolik to the middle.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Rona Roundtable.  TSN 1290 Hockey Analyst Trevor Kidd gives a goaltenders perspective on the Jets loss in St. Louis and what Ondrej Pavelec may have seen on the game winning goal.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Rona Roundtable.  Shane Hnidy recaps the Jets heartbreaking loss to St. Louis and what he saw on the game winning goal by Barret Jackman.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show.  TSN resident scout Craig Button says the Jets have no choice but to move on from their heartbreaking loss to the Blues on Tuesday and towards a matchup with the Panthers and says if the team can’t bounce back, they don’t deserve to be a playoff team.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show.   Dennis Beyak explains why the decision by coach Maurice to give his team a day away from the rink was exactly what the team needed.
