Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  It was a rough outing in D.C. last night as the Jets took too many penalties and ended up on the receiving end of a 5-1 steamrolling by the Capitals.  They will practice in Toronto today as they get ready to face the Leafs on Saturday night on HNIC.  Toronto plays in Carolina tonight.

Standings Watch:  Canucks won in a shootout.  Sharks won.  Stars lost.  The Jets remain in 5th spot in the Western Conference with a 30-20-10 record.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets need to alter forward lines to look like a playoff team.  Ted argues that it is time to switch things up in order for Winnipeg to make a push for the post season.

Illegal Curve:  How can the Jets play aggressive but disciplined in order avoid the sin bin?  The consensus among fans seems to be taking less stick penalties which is what the Jets bench boss has been advocating since December.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets can’t win from the sin bin.  Following the game coach Maurice admitted that he had never seen a team take five tripping penalties in one game.  The parade to the penalty box clearly has to stop, especially with the way the PK has been of late.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets’ path to early golf starts at door of penalty box.  Tim pulls no punches with this piece detailing the problems that Winnipeg faced in last night’s game due to their lack of discipline.

Winnipeg Sun:  Penalties kill Jets against Capitals.  Case in point was Wheeler’s penalty which he took just seconds after Tobias Enstrom brought Winnipeg with one goal of tying the game.  The Jets went into the game knowing how lethal the Capitals power play was and yet they still took penalties that coach Maurice was clearly not happy with.

CSN Washington:  Capitals scramble the Jets thanks to Backstrom, Ovechkin.  On Ovechkin bobblehead night #8 was fantastic as he and his teammates continued to own their former Southeast Division rival.  Read the breakdown of the game from Capitals Insider Chuck Gormley.

CBS Sports:  Eye on Hockey – Backstrom scores on rare 4-on-1 against Jets (video).  It was like watching a cat play with a mouse as neither Enstrom nor Pavelec had much of a chance as the Capitals passed it around before Backstrom deposited the puck in the net.

Yahoo Sports:  Puck Daddy – Byfuglien spies on Washington strategy during timeout (video).  Actually thought this was a pretty funny/subtle move by the Jets big man.
