Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: A wrinkle in the crease? Prior to last night’s game we were thinking the rotation may be dead but perhaps rumours of its demise have been greatly exaggerated.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets can’t hold candle to Flames. Aside from a quick strike by the Jets, which was answered by Calgary, the Flames were able to maintain their discipline and take advantage of some soft goaltending by Michael Hutchinson who was pulled in the 3rd period. While Ondrej Pavelec is expected to start tonight, he only faced two shorts so should be pretty fresh when he faces Vancouver tonight.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets burned by Flames. Many were expecting to see if this team could bounce back after three tough losses but instead Winnipeg was on the receiving end of their fourth game in a row giving up five goals against. If they are serious about the playoffs it is time to turn it around immediately especially when you consider that the teams chasing Winnipeg have games in hand.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets need some action from general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. Ted wonders if the time is right to make a move. Good timing as we had just added a new Poll to the site asking what you think the team should do as the trade deadline approaches. Vote now.
Calgary Herald: With another big third period, Flames ground Jets. Folks keep expecting these Flames to be extinguished but they have shown little indication that they are gonna let the flames go out on this season. Read about the Calgary win from Flames beat writer George Johnson.
Sportsnet: Pavelec relies on the big save too much. Lots of analysis of the big saves that Pavelec tends to make and how that could be cause for concern.
Illegal Curve: Jay Harrison is out with an upper-body injury. Looks like Jets 7th defenceman may be out for a bit as coach Maurice revealed yesterday.
Flames 5 Jets 2:
Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice post-game scrum (audio). Trying to get back to the good template. What did the Flames do to keep the Jets from getting good second and third chances? Did he think Hutchinson was fighting the puck a bit? How do they move forward without hitting the panic button? Important to get right back at it tomorrow?
Canucks news:
Vancouver Sun: Canucks backup goalie Eddie Lack out of mothballs to face Jets. Sounds like he will be playing against the Jets although we will have a better idea after the Canucks skate this morning.
The Province: Kassian trying not to sulk, just wants to start scoring. Catch up on the latest Canucks news from beat writer Ben Kuzma.
