Note:  A tough loss in Glendale last night at the hands of the Coyotes kick started this Jets three game road trip off on a bad foot.  Now Winnipeg faces a tough back-to-back against the Kings and Ducks on Saturday and Sunday.  You can bet coach Maurice is going to have his troops ready to play when puck drops in Los Angeles.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets are pleased, not satisfied.  That seems like a headline written before they lost four of last five in regulation.  Ed writes about the first half of the season, one in which the Jets have the most points at 41 games than they have had since the move from Atlanta.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets’ hopes sinking like a stone.  Following the loss with 4.5 seconds to go against San Jose I expected a much better and more determined Winnipeg team.  Unfortunately the 1000s of Jets fans that filled Gila River Arena last night in Glendale saw an undisciplined game by the ‘visitors’.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets need to focus on keeping damage low if they hope to make playoffs.  The team has to stop the bleeding and the biggest test of the season may be the back to back this weekend in California.  They are tied with the Kings for 7th in the West and need to show that they can win in this conference.

Arizona Republic:  Coyotes goalie Mike Smith impresses in win over the Jets.  Always interesting to read about the game from the Arizona perspective.

Illegal Curve:  Grant Clitsome has back surgery.  For the second January in a row the Jets defenceman is felled by a back injury that requires surgery.

Coyotes 4 Jets 1:

Illegal Curve:  GM Cheveldayoff Q & A with Dennis Beyak during 1st intermission.  The Jets GM joined Dennis to chat about his team at the mid point of the season.

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice post-game.  How can he put into words the start of that 1st period?  His team had a lot of chances on the power play.  How did he see the disallowed goal and what kind of difference could it have had?  Where does this one rank on the frustration side of things?

Illegal Curve:  Jets on a Deadline.  Game recaps, post-game audio, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.

Teemu Selanne Edition:

Winnipeg Free Press:  The Finnished Flash.  He is one of those players that you were happy to see win a Stanley Cup, regardless of what team he won it with.  Tim writes about Selanne, what he is up to and takes a look back at his storied career.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Selanne relishing retired life.  It is fitting that his jersey will be raised to the roof with plenty of Jets fans in attendance.  For those who didn’t live in this city during 1992 to 1996 they cannot possibly understand the connection this city has to the Finnish Flash.

Winnipeg Sun:  Still the worst trade ever.  I recall thinking to myself “who the hell are Chad Kilger and Oleg Tverdovsky?” when the trade went down.  It was a trade that Paul calls the worst trade ever and it is hard to argue when you reflect on Selanne’s career.

Fox Sports:  Ducks’ Frederik Andersen honors Teemu Selanne with custom goalie mask.  Now that is quite the tribute mask.  Can’t help but envision what it would look like as a Jets mask with Selanne tossing his glove in the air and shooting it on one side and on the other playing street hockey with kids in River Heights.
