Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Note:  Tonight is the second of three games this week at the MTS Centre as the Jets take on the Red Wings at 7 pm.  Be sure to stick with our comprehensive coverage throughout the day and following the game.  As always ensure you follow @illegalcurve on twitter.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Lowry shakes early nerves, making great strides in first 20 games.  You got a sense of his maturity before the season even began as he was able to reflect on his play without giving the usual cliche used by young hockey players.

Winnipeg Free Press:  The Fab Freshmen of Jetsville.  Having spoken to Hutchinson a number of times this season you really get the sense that he is a pretty grounded individual.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets have major sore points.  When you are ranked 29th in the league it is never a good thing.  The Jets clearly need to do something so they can put the advantage back in a “man-advantage”.

Winnipeg Sun:  Lots to like about Winnipeg Jets through 20 games. It sure seems like we are seeing a different version of this team this season.

Chronicle Herald:  GM Cheveldayoff keeping tabs on team’s prized prospect Nikolaj Ehlers.  More on the development of the Jets 2014 1st round pick and how the Jets are being patient with his development.

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice scrum from IcePlex (audio).  Big picture at the quarter point – how does he assess where his team is?  Has the group exceeded what he thought they would be able to do?  He called the start last night ‘decent’, what does he look to improve?  On the team’s lackluster power play.  On the high number of penalties the team has taken.  What role does Blake Wheeler play in bringing the team together?  On the challenge they will face with the Red Wings.  What has to change with the mindset (back to the powerplay).  On the team shooting percentage.  On last night’s goal.  On Kane’s goal line slapper.  Same lines tomorrow?

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show (audio).  The Jets reached the 20 game plateau Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over the Devils. Dennis Beyak joined the Big Show with a look back at the first quarter of the season, discuss the team’s the biggest surprises, and debates who Winnipeg’s MVP is thus far.

Red Wings news:

Detroit Free Press:  Wings place Nestrasil on waivers to make room for Weiss.  The Red Wings organization loves to let their prospects develop in Grand Rapids before getting established with the big club.

Detroit News:  Justin Abdelkader becoming a net-front force.  I remember when he was just breaking in with the club and now he has become a solid member of the core.  They sure seem to be playing the Michigan State Spartans goal song at the Joe a lot more than when he first made the team.
