Winnipeg Free Press: Big Buff back up to snuff. Coach Maurice doesn’t seem overly concerned about getting his players into the lineup for the final pre-season game. Better than he has them healthy and slightly rusty for the season opener in Arizona.
Winnipeg Free Press: What’s it gonna be fans? Trash talk or maturity? Will fans be looking at this season with a glass half empty or half full approach.
Winnipeg Sun: Byfuglien ready to man wing in season opener. The media caught the big fella in fine form yesterday as he discussed his return to the ice and starting the season as a forward who will be getting used to some new linemates.
Winnipeg Sun: Coach Paul Maurice cracks the whip as camp winds down. For those who thought the worst was over as we entered the final weekend of training camp, the Jets bench boss disabused his troops of that notion on Friday putting them through a very difficult practice.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets put Tangradi on waivers. Coach Maurice summed it up by saying“A bunch of guys are ahead of him,” when discussing the move with the media yesterday. Assuming he clears waivers he will be sent to St. John’s. The 2nd round pick (42nd overall) in 2007 was picked up by the Jets during the 2012-13 season and had four goals and six assists in 91 games with Winnipeg.
Sportsnet: Bogosian says Kane is just misunderstood. The Jets defenceman was on with Brady and Walker on Sportsnet 590 The Fan Friday and of course they asked about Kane. It bears noting that the only people who bring it up these days are people who reside outside of this Province.
CBC: Nikolaj Ehlers says ‘other favourite sport’ is soccer (video). Mitch sat down with prospect Nikolaj Ehlers, but hockey wasn’t the topic of discussion. Considering what a fan of soccer Mitch is that was probably music to his ears.
TSN 1290 Winnipeg: Rona Roundtable (audio). Shane Hnidy says Eric Tangradi was put on waivers because he didn’t perform well enough last year with the Jets and this season in training camp. This transaction would open up a roster spot for a players like Adam Lowry and Matt Halischuk who looked good so far.
TSN 1290 Winnipeg: The Big Show (audio). Voice of the Jets Dennis Beyak stops by with a recap of the Jets pre-season loss to Calgary, who could be on the way out before the regular season, as well as who needs to step up for Winnipeg to challenge in the Western conference.
