Jets news:
Illegal Curve: Blake Wheeler given the ‘A’ by the Jets. The speedy winger will be an alternate captain along with Mark Stuart this season.
Winnipeg Free Press: Maurice has influence, pedigree to make Winnipeg a contender. Gary talks about the power coach Maurice has this season and how that may be used to motivate this group of players.
Winnipeg Free Press: Maurice promises ‘an exciting, very aggressive brand of hockey’. Fans will probably appreciate that because even if your team isn’t winning you want to see effort. Nothing worse than paying good money to watch a team whose efforts shows they would rather be somewhere else.
Winnipeg Sun: Maurice has no Kane concerns, plans to play him with Scheifele and Wheeler. If you watched the Jets closely last year Kane started to trust Scheifele as the two played more and more together. It will be interesting to see if that chemistry can be resurrected this season.
Winnipeg Sun: How do Winnipeg Jets improve? It all starts with team defence. When you are a team that finished out of the playoffs for seven straight years there are always going to be areas in which you need to improve. Coach Maurice continuing his train of thought from last season seems to think that this is the area in which to really begin to make that significant change to this team.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets will be better this year says coach Maurice. Do you agree? Interestingly our non-scientific IC Poll shows that 36% of respondents think the Jets will finish 5th to 8th whereas 33% think 9th to 11th and 29% of you think 12th to 14th. We should also note 2% believe the Jets can make 1st to 4th for which I quote Jack Black from Shallow Hal “cuckoo cuckoo”.
CBC: Is Paul Maurice the answer the Winnipeg Jets are looking for? Jeff asks if the coach may be the answer and goes in-depth discussing aiming high, who we are and Mr. Fix it.
TSN 1290 Winnipeg: Hustler and Lawless (audio). Tim Campbell from the Winnipeg Free Press joined the guys to break down the coach Maurice presser.
