The accolades keep coming for the Jets top centre. Just last week folks including by me here on illegalcurve were writing about his development into a top centre in the NHL and today he was recognized by the NHL as 2nd Star of the Week.
The Winnipeg Jets hockey club, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, today announced that forward Mark Scheifele has been named the NHL ‘Second Star’ of the Week for the week ending Nov. 13/16.
Scheifele, 23, tallied six points (3G, 3A) in four games last week in leading the Jets to a 3-0-1 record. He had four points (2G, 2A) at home against Dallas on Nov. 8/16 in an 8-2 win before adding an assist on Nov. 10/16 at Arizona (3-2 W) and scoring the game-tying goal on Nov. 11/16 at Colorado (3-2 OTL). He capped his week by scoring the winning goal in a shootout against Los Angeles (3-2 SOW) on Nov. 13/16.
On the season, Scheifele is tied for the NHL scoring lead with 20 points (10G, 10A) in 17 games. He has scored or assisted 40 per cent of the 50 goals the Jets have scored this season.
This is the second time in his career Scheifele has been selected the NHL’s Second Star of the Week. He was also bestowed the honour last season for the week ending Mar. 6/16.
