Next month, both Mark Scheifele and Dylan DeMelo will be boarding a plane with Team Canada to head to Switzerland for the 2026 World Championships, which will be played from the 15th to the 31st.

Scheifele has played for Canada at the Worlds three times (2013-14, 2015-16 & 2016-17) and, after his first 100+ point season, will be getting a chance again to wear the maple leaf. He was left off the 4 Nations team last year and didn’t make the Canadian Olympic team that got silver this winter in Italy.
When discussing the opportunity during the exit meetings following the Jets elimination from playoff contention, Scheifele said, “I’m really exited for it. Any chance you have an opportunity to compete for your country you gotta take it with honour. I’m just excited to play more hockey. I love this game. I love playing. I love competing. I wanna go over there and win a gold medal and do that with some good friends, so I’m really excited for that opportunity.”
Speaking of good friends, his teammate DeMelo will get a chance to wear a Canadian jersey for the first time in his career. That news was broken by Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press.
