Winnipeg Jets Injury Report: Laine, Morrissey, Dahlstrom, Lowry, Perreault, Sbisa & Niku

The Jets laundry list of skating wounded is a long one.

Patrik Laine:

Laine blocked a shot against the Washington Capitals on February 27th which forced him to leave the game and not return. He would miss the next game in Edmonton but Paul Maurice confirmed that there was nothing showing on any of the tests to indicate something was broken.  On the 29th of February, in response to a question about Laine and Morrissey, Maurice said “I’ll list them both as day-to-day and won’t know until we get further along the road.”.

Josh Morrissey:

Morrissey hasn’t played since February 22nd against the Flyers.  On the 27th Coach Maurice said he was trending well. He has missed the last four Jets games.  On the 29th of February Maurice in response to a question about Morrissey and Laine, said “I’ll list them both as day-to-day and won’t know until we get further along the road.”.

Carl Dahlstrom:

After waiting to get back into the Jets lineup Dahlstrom finally did on January 14th against the Canucks but wouldn’t play in the 3rd period.  Following the game Maurice said “Carl’s going to get checked out tomorrow but this one is not going to be short term.  I know that already.  I’ll give you more detail the day after tomorrow but this is not day to day.”  When he did provide an update on the 16th of January it was that Dahlstorm would miss six weeks with a broken bone in his hand.  In Edmonton on February 29th he was practicing in a regular uniform and since Paul Maurice said on the 27th that once he switches to a regular uniform he “will be available” it would seem like he should be ready if he is needed.

Adam Lowry:

Lowry left a game against the Chicago Blackhawks on January 19th and was expected to miss at least a month.  In Buffalo on February 23rd head coach Paul Maurice was asked about the acquisition of Cody Eakin.  In his response he added this about Lowry: “…Adam Lowry, it is going to end up being two months….” which would have put his timeline around the third week of March.  However on February 27th the Jets bench boss said “I’m not listing him as day-to-day cause he’s gotta get out of that (non-contact) sweater and get some contact in.  But I would take him off the week-to-week.  It may get to a week but it’s not that far off after that.”.

Mathieu Perreault:

Perreault left a game against the Bruins on the 31st of January and was labeled out with an upper-body injury with the expectation he would miss two weeks.  He has now missed over a month and there doesn’t seem to be any indication he is close to a return.

Luca Sbisa:

Sbisa last played on February 16th against the Hawks.  On February 18th Jets bench boss Paul Maurice indicated Sbisa will miss at least a week with an upper-body injury and that he would need to be further evaluated. There hasn’t been an update since then but obviously it is approaching two weeks since he has been out.

Sami Niku

Niku was set to return to the lineup for the first time since he played against the L.A. Kings back on February 18th but prior to puck drop on February 25th against the Capitals in Washington it was announced he would miss the game he was scheduled to play in.  On February 27th Paul Maurice indicated Niku was “week-to-week.  It’s going to be awhile.”
