In the 2nd period of yesterday’s Jets and Flyers game veteran forward Mathieu Perreault was forced to leave the contest with the help of his teammates after taking a brutal hit from the Flyers Joel Farabee.
If you missed it here was the hit:
Farabee will have a phone call with Player Safety today but after the game there wasn’t much of an update on Perreault.
Today following the Jets practice at Bell MTS Place coach Maurice provided an update:
“He got checked out. We will treat it as a concussion. So he will go into the protocol.”
There was a follow-up question since Maurice didn’t label it a concussion:
“You can pass your tests and still have concussion like symptoms and we take any of those symptoms and just say we are running it through the protocol. Its all the same thing anyway. We are going to get him on a bike and see how he feels. We are going to get him into more activity and see how he feels. Just because a guy doesn’t test out with concussion doesn’t necessarily change the way you treat him.”
When asked if Perreault felt off today the Jets bench boss indicated that “Feels pretty good today. We are just going to make sure. We’ll get him on the bike today and work him back in.”
Update:
Joel Farabee, who was the Flyers forward who delivered the hit, has been suspended for three games. Here is the explanation from Player Safety.
