Jets captain Blake Wheeler wasn’t on the ice today for the Jets at practice.
Head coach Paul Maurice, speaking following skate, said his captain wasn’t feeling well the day after the head hit he took in the game against the Senators on Monday. It isn’t being listed as a concussion but it sounds like the Jets are treating it as such. He indicated that they didn’t want to chance putting Wheeler on a plane.
This will likely mean that Wheeler will miss five games for Winnipeg. Paul Maurice was asked if they would fly Wheeler out on the road if he was doing better but while that may be an option it doesn’t sound like one they are thinking about right now.
Since 2015-16 he has only missed one game and that was when the team wanted to rest him before the 2017-18 playoffs. In total he has missed just six games since the 2011-12 season.
