When Jets fans saw second pairing left side defenceman Dylan Samberg down on the ice in pain in game 81 with the playoffs less than a week away it must have made some folks believers in the Presidents’ Trophy curse which Winnipeg won this evening for the first time in their history. The tough Minnesotan had to be helped off the ice in the middle frame in a game his team would eventually lose 4-1 loss to the Oilers. He didn’t return for the 3rd.

Earlier in the day head coach Scott Arniel was asked for an update on Nikolaj Ehlers and advised that “Everybody’s day-to-day which you’ll pretty much hear from me for the rest of the year”. So when he was back in the Matt Frost Media Centre after the loss to Edmonton the conversation was directed towards Samberg and, qualified with his earlier comment, he interjected:
“He’s OK. We’ll be checking on him again tomorrow but I think he’ll be OK.”
That’s a big relief
“Oh yeah, big time.”
That might be the understatement of the year given how important Samberg has become to this team’s success.
