Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel doesn’t expect any of his injured defencemen back before break

“I don’t see anybody coming before the break” was the comment from the bench boss on his trio of injured defencemen.

The Jets announced the recall of defenceman Isaak Phillips ahead of their four game road trip which begins in New Jersey before heading to Florida and ending in Dallas. Then they are back home for a game against Montreal on February 4th before they are on their Olympic break.

With Phillips up with the big club it gives them seven healthy defencemen.

Just 12 days ago we learned that Haydn Fleury, Colin Miller and Neal Pionk were to be listed as week-to-week after sustaining injuries.

Fleury sustained an injury back on January 6th in a game against the Golden Knights which saw him slam into the boards and need to be stretchered off the ice.

Miller also slid hard into the boards in a game on January 11th against the Devils.

Lastly, Pionk was clearly dealing with something after blocking a shot against the Oilers on January 8th. He would miss the game the next day against the Kings and tried playing the following two games before ultimately being labelled as week-to-week.

Today, after practice we had a chance to ask head coach Scott Arniel for an update on the trio. He indicated:

“Yeah, nobody’s hitting the ice, yet. I think P might be coming on the trip, but I’m not sure if that’s for him and Millsy, maybe, for medical, continuing to get the treatment. But I don’t see anybody coming before the break.”

Which means Elias Salomonsson and Isaak Phillips should be up with the big club for awhile.
