The Jets GM spoke to the media today after the conclusion of the NHL Trade Deadline day. A day in which the Jets made the Paul Stastny and Joe Morrow trades.
Kevin Cheveldayoff trade deadline topics: Thoughts on today’s deadline. How different was this year compared to years past? Walking through the Stastny deal. How did he keep it so quiet? On pursuing Stastny when he was a free agent. Is he a guy who he can see as more than a rental? What does Joe Morrow bring to the organization? If he was going to make an add is it accurate that they were targeting a centre? On the difficulty parting with a 1st round pick and a prospect Erik Foley. Was there a lot of interest in some of the Jets “untouchable” prospects? Was Wheeler’s role significant in getting Stastny? Was he in on Brassard? How surprised was he to get a text from Blues GM considering they are division rivals? Would it be fair to characterize the Stastny plan as his plan B? On the label being known as a conservative GM? Did he some of the teams out there making moves to prevent the Jets from acquiring talent? Did he use Blake Wheeler as a pitch man? What is the message he is giving his team with these moves? Is this Jets team ahead of schedule? On whether any players would not waive a no-trade to come to Winnipeg. Are they paper moves for Petan/Poolman?
