As Jets training camp is set to get underway on Sunday we heard from Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff today. One of the questions he was asked had to do with health updates on a trio of Jets prospects including David Gustafsson (2018 2nd), Daniel Torgersson (2020 2nd) and Anton Johanesson (2020 5th) who are dealing with injuries that have kept them from playing with their respective teams overseas.
I spoke to David Gustafsson back on December 3rd and in that conversation I noted he had missed the game the previous night with Tingsryd. He advised that he was dealing with a minor lower-body injury. It would keep him out of five straight games before his loan with his hometown club ended and he returned to Winnipeg.
Today Kevin Cheveldayoff had this to say about Gustafsson:
“Gus did get hurt playing over there, right before I guess their league paused, he sustained an injury. He’s still recovering from that so he’s over here and has quarantined and gone through that process already. His exact availability from the beginning of training camp will still be, I guess determined as he gets more treatment so I’m not 100% certain that he’s available to us for the first little while of training camp from that injury lingering.”
He added this about Daniel Torgersson:
“Torgersson, he got hurt early, very early in his season over there and had to have some surgery. I believe he’s on the recovery process and hopefully when things resume more normally that he’ll be back.”
And it appears that he forgot to answer regarding Anton Johanesson. Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg had reported previously that the prospect is recovering from surgery on his foot.
