post-game recap

Winnipeg Jets get back on track doubling up Florida Panthers 6-3 to improve to 16-3-0

Recap of the game.

You wanted a response. You got a response. The Jets split the series with a big 6-3 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers as they improve to 16-3-0 with a big game from Mark Scheifele who got the ninth hat trick of his career.

Notable:

Morgan Barron was recognized for playing in game 200 while Josh Morrissey was recognized for game 600 which took place for both last game in Sunrise.

No surprise that the well liked Nate Schmidt got a hearty Friendly Manitoba welcome back to Winnipeg.

Kyle Connor‘s 12th goal of the season was just filthy to give the Jets a 1-0 lead.

Big cheer for former Jets bench boss Paul Maurice as he was shown on the Jumbotron. First time he’s back since his wishing Winnipeg would win a Stanley Cup comments. He looked up and responded with his characteristic wave.

With the power play getting shut down the last few games, and failing on a 5 on 3 earlier in the game, they finally got one. And it was on and off Mark Scheifele‘s stick that if you blinked you might miss that pass and that goal. Scheifele got this crowd out of their seats.

After the Panthers got within one on the power play the Jets were able to regain their two goal edge just as their power play expired as Mark Scheifele scored his third goal of the game for the ninth hat trick of his career to make it 4-2 for Winnipeg. Scheifele now stands alone in 1st on the Jets 2.0 list for hat tricks moving one ahead of Patrik Laine.

No time like the present for Morgan Barron to get his first goal of the season (he is now no longer the only forward without a goal) as he banked the puck into the empty net on the penalty kill to make it a 5-3 game. And then 21 seconds later he got his second as he put another into the empty net to make it 6-3. I was curious if this was the fastest for consecutive shorthanded goals but that distinction belongs to Oiler great Esa Tikkanen who accomplished this feat back in 1988 in just 12 seconds. Turns out Barron is tied for third fastest.

With the win the Jets improve to 16-3-0 on the season.

Multipoint Game:

Mark Scheifele 3G
Morgan Barron 2G
Kyle Connor 1G 1A
Josh Morrissey 2A
Nikolaj Ehlers 2A
