post-game recap

Winnipeg Jets force OT with late 6-on-5 goal but fall 4-3 to Dallas Stars

Recap of the game.

It was an exciting game but in the end it was the Stars who took it in overtime.

Notable:

The home team opened the scoring on the power play as the Jets left Jason Robertson alone in front who tipped it home to open the scoring. Dylan DeMelo as the weak-side D probably should have had him tied up.

As bad as the season has been going for the Jets, Gabriel Vilardi has been having himself a season. That’s his 21st of the season which keeps him on pace for 30+. Smart play by Cole Perfetti to set it up.

The Jets broke an 0/14 streak on the power play as Cole Perfetti‘s sixth of the season helped snap that as he buried a good pass by Vilardi.

While DeMelo didn’t look great on the game-tying goal in the 2nd for the Stars he had Steel tied up and then switched to Lundqvist. No help from the top line.

The Jets had a chance early in the final frame but the captain was unable to bury a nice pass by Perfetti to give his team the lead. And then the visitors had the least favourable matchup possible in Luke Schenn vs Mikko Rantanen which resulted in a predictable outcome of the Stars taking a 3-2 lead.

But somehow the Jets scored a 6 on 5 goal! Yes, in this economy? And it was Logan Stanley who now has 9 goals. Dear Mama. It was the 40th assist of the season for Mark Scheifele.

While it was a heck of a game,  it was the Stars that took it in OT by a final score of 4-3 over the Jets after Thomas Harley scored the game-winning goal. Connor Hellebuyck was rather upset and upon reviewing the video the strap came off his helmet.

Multi Point Game:

Gabriel Vilardi 1G 1A
Cole Perfetti 1G 1A
Mark Scheifele 2A
