Winnipeg Jets extend qualifying offers to seven players

The Jets had a number of players to qualify today or they would become unrestricted free agents.

They have announced that they have qualified:

Morgan Barron
Declan Chisholm
Leon Gawanke
Rasmus Kupari
Dylan Samberg
Logan Stanley
Gabriel Vilardi

None of these are a surprise.

It is worth noting that defenceman Leon Gawanke signed overseas for next year (and the three after that) but this move allows the Jets to retain his rights. It simply gives Winnipeg the opportunity to try to trade him in order to try to recoup an asset. Similar to what they did with with 2017 1st rounder Kristian Vesalainen last year.

They did not qualify Kevin Stenlund, Alex Limoges and goalie Arvid Holm. It’s possible they circle back to these players if they feel so inclined without the need to qualify them.
