As per the folks at CapFriendly, the Jets had until August 15th to sign college prospect Jared Moe (2018 6th rounder). Instead the deadline of 4 PM CT passed yesterday and the netminder is now free to sign with any team.
Moe spent his first two seasons of college hockey at the University of Minnesota where he backed up Hurricanes prospect Jack Lafontaine. As a freshman Moe played 16 games but this was a step back in terms of development for his sophomore season as he played just three games while LaFontaine played 29.
He would transfer after that season to the University of Wisconsin where he spent the next two seasons playing at least 30 games per year for the Badgers.
With covid he has one year of college eligibility left. He entered the transfer portal back in March as he looks for a new hockey home but he has yet to find a new spot to play next season. He could also has the option to turn pro.
This isn’t a tremendous surprise as the organization has solid goalie depth coming up in the system with netminders Thomas Milic (2023 5th rounder) and Domenic DiVincentiis (2022 7th rounder) coming off seasons where they won WHL and OHL goalies of the year with their respective junior clubs. As well 2019 5th rounder Logan Neaton is set to conclude his college career in 2023-24 with Miami University (Ohio).
