Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey NOT named a Norris Trophy Finalist

Number 44 is not one of the final three nominees.

For much of the 2022-23 season the nickname ‘Norrissey’ was given to Jets top defenceman Josh Morrissey as he was having an unbelievable, franchise record-breaking season. Prior to the campaign getting underway he and new head coach Rick Bowness had a conversation with the intention of bringing out his offensive talents.

It worked.

Morrissey had his most productive season as a pro setting new career highs in goals (16), assists (60) and points (76). His 76 points was good enough to tie him for 2nd amongst defencemen with Quinn Hughes. Both were well back of Erik Karlsson who ended his incredible year with 101 points.

Now it is worth noting that it was a very deep pool of defencemen this season so his not being selected isn’t a complete shock. His advanced stats did also start to drop as the team began to crater in the standings.

Tonight it was announced that Adam Fox, Erik Karlsson and Cale Makar have been named the Norris Trophy Finalists. This award is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
