Illegal Curve:  Ondrej Pavelec named NHL First Star of the Week.  He played down the significance of the achievement but you have to imagine that it will boost his confidence to receive that type of recognition from the league.  Or maybe it doesn’t have any impact at all.

Illegal Curve:  Morning Papers.  If you missed any of the news we have you covered.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler & Lawless.  Jan Kostalek talks about signing with the Winnipeg Jets.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Jets Lunch.  Shane Hnidy joined Jets Lunch and he explained why teams shouldn’t look past Winnipeg.

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice pre-game scrum.  On Pavelec being named NHL First Star.  How much has been driven by internal competition?  Any theory on goalies pushing each other?  What aspect of Tyler Myers game has impressed him the most?  The timing of the trade.  Dialing back Myers minutes has benefited his game.  What does he sense from Myers confidence wise?  Are Byfuglien/Little any closer to playing? Benefits to having injured players on the trip.  On facing the Oilers.  Setting new points/wins records for franchise.  Was the trade an indication that the franchise is ready to change things up?  Is he a scoreboard watcher?  No time to celebrate a win, but more time to mourn a loss.

Oilers news:

Edmonton Journal:  The next 10 games meaningless for Edmonton Oilers? Not even close. These games are crucial.  This is why you cannot ever take a team lightly in the NHL.  The Jets cannot afford to look past Edmonton and ahead to a big contest against the Canucks on Tuesday.

Edmonton Journal:  Oilers game preview -Winnipeg Jets hanging tough, fighting for playoff spot heading into Edmonton.  Oilers beat writer Jim Matheson previews the game with a look at both squads.

Edmonton Sun:  Oilers playing spoilers.  While it isn’t quite the same as the Smythe Division smack downs of the 80s, once again a team from Edmonton is looking to screw up the Jets chances in the post season.  Or in this case making it to the post season.
