Wild deliver a cold 6–0 shutout to Moose, but Teddy Bear Toss will warm Manitobans’ hearts

The Moose were looking to close out this unusual four-game set with the Wild which began in Iowa last weekend. Both teams won one game and then Manitoba took the first of two here in Winnipeg on Friday by a final score of 6-1.

Lineup news:

The Moose went with 11/7 this afternoon as David Gustafsson was out of the game with illness. Since Colby Barlow, Jacob Julien and Fabian Wagner are all day-to-day, Manitoba didn’t have an extra forward to use.

Moose lineup:

Empey – Zhilkin – JAD
Lambert – Yager – Fagemo
Di Giuseppe – Ford – Chibrikov
Shaw – Duehr

Sautner – Salomonsson
Phillips – Clague
Heinola – Bauer

Milic

Notable:

The Moose go into some penalty trouble in the opening frame but early they showed why they’ve been so effective and also why they have so many shorthanded goals as Isaak Phillips picked off a pass and got a breakaway chance.

A soft play in the neutral zone leads to a turnover and then Dauphin product and former Moose Mark Liwiski gets one that Thomas Milic will likely want back.

If you keep taking penalties eventually it will burn you, regardless of how good your PK is. While the Moose don’t give up very many of these the Wild did score on the power play to make it a 2-0 game for the visitors.

Wild got a fortunate bounce and the Moose had all committed to the wrong side. Thomas Milic could not recover in time and Manitoba found themselves down 3-0 just 15 minutes into the opening period.

One positive: The Teddy Bears were raining down on the ice in Winnipeg in support of the Christmas Cheer Board. Manitobans helping Manitobans.

The middle frame saw a new goalie in the net for Manitoba as Domenic DiVincentiis goes in to start the 2nd period.Three goals on eight shots chases Millic after 20 minutes.

Former Moose and pride of Dauphin, Manitoba Mark Liwiski gets his second of the game as this one just squeaks over the line to give the Wild a 4-0 lead. Nikita Chibrikov is back but fails to take the man as he’s caught puck watching.

Coming into this game as already mentioned the Moose had the 2nd best PK in the AHL while the Wild have the 2nd worst PP and yet the visitors have their second power play goal of the game. It’s a 5-0 game for Iowa.

Went from bad to worse as the Wild took a 6-0 lead on this 2 on 1.

Tempers boiled over at the end of this one as the Moose get shutout 6-0 by the Wild to end this four game series. Both Manitoba and Iowa won two games during this unusual quirk in schedule.

Manitoba remains in 2nd spot in the Central with a 14-10-2-0 record.
