The Moose picked up an OT win yesterday over the AHL leading Wolves courtesy of a excellent performance from goalie Evan Cormier and a complete team effort. It would be a tall task to accomplish that feat two days in a row.
Lineup news:
Only changes was defenceman Hayden Shaw came in for Dean Stewart. And goalie Philippe Desrosiers got the call in net for Evan Cormier who played yesterday.
Moose lineup:
Lynch – Meireles – Egle
Polei – Alfaro – Burgess
Jones – Maier – Nogier
Pelton-Byce – Boland – Caron
Oligny-Kovacevic
Chisholm – Gawanke
Shaw – Lundmark
Desorsiers
Cormier
Noteworthy:
Jets 2017 3rd rounder Johnny Kovacevic scored his seventh goal of the season to draw the game even here in Winnipeg.
It isn’t easy to switch from one position to another but that is what the team had defenceman turned forward Nelson Nogier do this season with all the young D prospects. Today the Saskatoon product scored two goals including the game-winner as well as an empty netter to seal the deal. It was his first ever two goal game as a pro.
Goalie Philippe Desrosiers, playing in just his second game of the season for the Moose, made 40 saves for the win. Coincidentally it is his second win against Chicago this year (they’ve only got 7 losses this season and he has earned two wins against them).
It was another HUGE win by an undermanned Moose club as they defeat the AHL leading Wolves (for the second straight day). Final score is 3-1 for the home side (outshot 41-23). Manitoba improved to 22-10-2-1 on the season. They are five points back of Chicago in 1st.
Final Thought:
Interesting post-game comment from Moose assistant coach Eric Dubois on why this club is working so well and is so cohesive he said they asked the leadership group of six or seven players in training camp what they need to do well:
“First word was inclusive”
