Tonight was the final game in the 3 game Red Wings mini-pack that I purchased with a buddy and tonight’s game was a doozy between the Red Wings and Flyers. Prior to the game the Wings honoured Kirk Maltby for his 1000th game in the NHL (he played the game in February). Interestingly tonight was Kris Draper’s 1000th game as a Red Wing. It was a really good game with tons of back and forth action from both teams. The Wings controlled the game (shots were 10-1 at one point) but Biron shut the door for the first two periods. The Flyers didn’t have many opportunities but took advantage when they had them. Jeff Carter is a big boy and sure looked great out there. Lucky for the Wings that Datsyuk (post goal reaction from the crowd) scored a goal late in the 2nd and they got to the 3rd period down 2-1. Franzen scored a beauty to tie the game and 2 minutes later Zetterberg put the Wings ahead for good with a top shelf goal. The St. Patty’s day celebration had the sold out crowd of 20,066 at the Joe up the entire game, except when this guy tried to get the wave going in the 3rd. And so the Flyers remain winless at the Joe since 1988.
In other hockey related news congrats to Martin Brodeur who passed Patrick Roy at the Prudential Center this evening in a victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
