Some Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose players heading to new teams

While free agent frenzy is usually a time to focus on which players have been signed by the Jets it also means players within the organization are heading off to new teams.

Friday, October 9th:

1. Carl Dahlstrom

The first player to depart was Carl Dahlstrom who was part of a trade this morning for Paul Stastny.  Winnipeg had claimed the Swedish defender off waivers last October from the Hawks.  He played 15 games with the Jets this past season and his most memorable moment was this snipe which was disallowed after being challenged by the Oilers.

Dahlstrom has one year left on his deal.

2. Seth Griffith

After two seasons with the Manitoba Moose Seth Griffith is heading west. Griffith had 37 goals and 61 assists in 127 games with the Jets AHL affiliate. He led Manitoba in scoring both seasons he played in Winnipeg.  He signed a two-year deal with the Oilers organization.

3. Anthony Bitetto

The Jets signed the affable New Yorker on day 2 of last season’s free agency and the eight year pro ended up playing 51 games for Winnipeg this past season finishing with no goals and eight assists.  He was named the winner of this season’s Dan Snyder Memorial Award for the player who best embodies perseverance, dedication & hard work without reward or recognition.  He signed a two-year deal with the Rangers organization.

4. Logan Shaw

Shaw joined the Jets organization in November of 2018 when the team signed him to an NHL contract after he started the 2018-19 season with the San Diego Gulls on an AHL deal.  He had 27 goals in 63 games with the Moose in his first season in Winnipeg. He signed a one-year deal in May of 2019 and ended up getting back up to the NHL for the first time since he played 30 games with the Habs in 2017-18. He would score three goals in 35 games for the Jets last season.  He signed a two-year deal with the Senators organization.

Saturday, October 10th

5. Cam Schilling

The Jets signed Schilling ahead of the 2017-18 season.  He has been a solid veteran presence on the Moose blueline for three seasons compiling 17 goals and 68 assists during his 189 games in a Manitoba jersey.  He was named the alternate captain for the 2018-19 season and also played in the 2018 AHL All-Star game.  He picked up his first NHL point (an assist against the Hawks) playing for the Jets in 2018.  He signed a one-year deal with the Capitals organization, which is the same organization he broke into pro hockey full time back in 2012-13 playing for their AHL affiliate in Hershey.

6. Cody Eakin

The Winnipeg product was acquired by the Jets from Vegas at the trade deadline this past season playing eight games with the local NHL club scoring once and adding four assists.  With Eakin not re-signing with the Jets the conditional pick remains a 4th rounder in 2021 instead of a 3rd had he re-signed or if the Jets made the playoffs.  The eight year bro is taking his talents to Buffalo where he has signed a two-year contract.

Thursday, October 22nd

7. Dmitry Kulikov

After three seasons in Winnipeg defenceman Dmitry Kulikov is heading to New Jersey with news today that he has signed a one-year deal with the Devils worth 1.15 million. Next season will be the big Russian’s 12th in the NHL.  He could never really live up to his 4.33 million dollar salary.

Thursday, November 19th

8. Nick Shore

The Jets claimed Nick Shore off waivers from the Leafs last December.  The Colorado-born centre would play 42 games for Winnipeg this past season scoring once and adding two assists.  He is heading to Slovakia to play for HK Dukla Trencin according to the folks at Elite Prospects where he will play with his brother Drew Shore who was loaned there by the Hurricanes.  Coincidentally this Slovakian club is where current Jet Marko Dano is playing while they wait for the 2020-21 season to get underway in North America.
