In the midst of last season’s opening-round Stanley Cup playoff loss to the Dallas Stars, with the Ducks headed toward defeat but not yet beaten, a team official pondered the prospect of such an early exit only 10½ months after the club had captured Lord Stanley’s prized mug.
A huge disappointment? Absolutely.
A silver lining? Quite possibly.

Stanley Cup hangovers are always a possibility, but when the Ducks had to begin the 2007/08 season overseas, it seemed like a Stanley Cup hangover was almost expected. The short off-season wasn’t helped by the fact that the Ducks are a veteran squad, that could probably use more rest than some of the younger teams out there. Expect the Ducks to have a bounce-back year in 2008/09.
