The key piece in the trade between Winnipeg and Los Angeles that was coming back to the Jets was 2017 1st rounder (11th overall) Gabe Vilardi who was seen as a much better defensive option than Dubois while also showing he can produce offensive at the same time.
The big question was what sort of contract would his representation and the Jets agree to? When we discussed a potential deal on last Saturday’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show I thought it would come in around 3.5 per for two years.
We now have our answer as it will be a two-year contract as per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet at 3.4375M.
Vilardi produced 23 goals in 63 games for the Kings (Dubois had 27 goals in 78 games for the Jets) and the Kingston product will have an excellent opportunity in the top-six of Winnipeg to increase these totals.
Update: Jets have now confirmed the details above.
