Prospect Joe Cannata’s road to the draft

The netminder impressed U-18 coach John Hynes enough to be offered a spot – and quickly nail down the No. 1 job this past season.

Cannata went from facing high school kids to wearing a USA jersey and facing top Division 1 college teams including Maine, Minnesota, Boston University, Northern Michigan, Notre Dame and Michigan.

Things happen quickly in the elite amateur hockey world, which was a lesson for Cannata’s mom, Joanie.

Cannata is hoping to be drafted this weekend, but is not listed as a can’t miss prospect. However, a lot of time it is more interesting to read about the non-first round prospects as they have a more compelling story.
