The Jets have until 4 PM CT on Monday to submit their 23-man roster to start the 2024-25 season. They currently have 29 on the roster but with Ville Heinola and Logan Stanley expected to start season on IR it means they’d have just four moves to make to be compliant. The easy move is to send the three waiver exempt prospects (Brad Lambert, Nikita Chibrikov and Elias Salomonsson) to the Moose which would mean they’d only have to make one further move.
Given they have three goalies the next move would seem likely to be to send one of Eric Comrie or Kaapo Kahkonen to Manitoba, which move would require waivers.
Updated:
Jets have placed Jaret Anderson-Dolan on waivers. Might this mean they are planning on keeping three goalies? Seems like an odd choice but we will have to wait and see what they do with their final roster decisions. It also could signal that the Jets are planning on keeping Brad Lambert up with the big club.
In this instance the likely 23-man roster would look like:
Goalies (3): Connor Hellebuyck, Eric Comrie and Kappo Kahkonen.
Defencemen (7): Josh Morrissey, Dylan DeMelo, Neal Pionk, Dylan Samberg, Haydn Fleury, Colin Miller and Dylan Coghlan.
Forwards (13): Mark Scheifele, Cole Perfetti, Nikolaj Ehlers, Kyle Connor, Adam Lowry, Gabe Vilardi, Mason Appleton, Morgan Barron, Alex Iafallo, Rasmus Kupari, Nino Niederreiter, Vlad Namestnikov and David Gustafsson.
This is what the Jets lines and D pairs could end up looking like for game 1 of the regular season on Wednesday night in Edmonton.
Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi
Perfetti-Namestnikov-Ehlers
Niederreiter-Lowry-Appleton
Barron-Gustafsson-Iafallo
Extra: Kupari
Morrissey-DeMelo
Samberg-Pionk
Fleury-Miller
Extra: Coghlan
Hellebuyck
Kahkonen
Comrie
We shall have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.
