Preseason Game 2: Jets 5 Oilers 1 post-game recap

Post-game recap and interviews with Jets players as well as from Coach Maurice.

A final in downtown Winnipeg, as the Jets defeated the Oilers by a 5-1 margin. Rematch on Saturday night in the Alberta capital.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats click here to see the results from the game via Natural Stat Trick.

Notable:

Jansen Harkins had another solid game for Winnipeg as he contributes two goals and one assist in the win but also showed off what he can do with and without the puck. Hard work continues to pay off for the 2015 2nd rounder.

His linemate Evgeny Svechnikov also contributed on the scoresheet deflecting home a goal and he too continues to merit mentions for his play. Guess all that work in practice on deflections this morning at the IcePlex paid off. He would finish the game with 1G 2A.

Connor Hellebuyck made 17 of 18 stops in a game he wasn’t terribly challenged without McDavid and Draisaitl. Paul Maurice indicated Hellebucyk won’t be on the road trip but will get the last two games of preseason.

While it may be preseason tonight 2020 1st rounder Cole Perfetti picked up his first NHL point (I reiterate that I know it doesn’t officially count).

Nate Schmidt had told me that folks should watch out for Austin Poganski who was one of the top scorers in Da Beauty League this summer. The Minnesota product picked up his first goal with the Jets.
