Jets captain Adam Lowry wasn’t in the lineup last night for the season opener as he continues to work his way back after offseason hip surgery. However, he did receive thunderous applause from the home crowd when he was shown on the jumbotron after narrating the reveal of the Presidents’ Trophy banner and then during player introductions when he was shown on the bench.

He was also top of mind for the Insider Trading segment on TSN. Darren Dreger is in Winnipeg and was asked by host James Duthie about the status of the captain’s contract status and if negotiations have started.
“They have. Not full-scale negotiations just yet, James. I would say preliminary talks between Adam Lowry’s agent, Craig Oster, and general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff.
But look — Adam Lowry, appreciably, is now a top priority for the Jets organization.
When you think of the strength of the Jets — past, present, and moving forward into the future — it’s based on their experience and their nucleus.
And Adam Lowry is a key element to that foundation. A strong leader on and off the ice, entering the final year of his five-year contract.
So, I’d expect negotiations to begin sooner rather than later.”
Not a tremendous surprise as the expectation was the Jets would focus on their captain once they inked Kyle Connor to an extension. But Dreger is connected when it comes to Winnipeg so if he’s saying it there is merit.
