OTB: Trade Deadline Aftermath

Here’s what beat writers and bloggers have to say the day after the deadline:

  • In his trade deadline review, Joe Pelletier of GHL explains that his chance to pick Calgary as a sleeper has gone by the wayside.  Agree with the love for the Pahlsson move.
  • Michael Arace of the Columbus Dispatch passes along the opinion of a couple of his friends regarding Antoine Vermette.  I love the overrating of players post-deadline.  Vermette is a nice pick up here, but he’s no game-changer.  Remember, he played on the highest scoring team in the NHL last season and tallied 53 points in 81 games.  He is now going to a more defensive squad, so let’s not put his offensive skill-set out of proportion.  After tempering expectations, I think the fans of Columbus will like what he brings to the table.
  • Marc Crawford’s opinion of the deadline.   I really did think the Flyers were going to pull something off for Bouwmeester.
  • James Mirtle takes a look at the much-talked about 4th round draft pick Toronto acquired from Tampa Bay.  It is obvious this was money for a pick, but the parties did a good job of masking that and you just can’t suggest that was the intent of both sides w/o any proof.
  • Mudcrutch likes the work the Oilers did.  Hard not to in my opinion.
  • The Winners and Losers from Yahoo’s Ross McKeon.  How are the Rangers and Panthers winners?
  • More information on all the prospects traded on deadline day.  Insightful.
  • The new Flames lines from practice today.  Just wait until they get all their injured players back.
  • Erik Cole’s take on being back in North Carolina.  They need to re-sign him to make that deal worthwhile.
  • Brendan Morrison playing with James Neal and Fabian Brunnstrom tonight.  At least his brother-in-law is in the booth calling his games.
  • Jay Bouwmeester comments on not being traded.  Enjoy him now because he won’t be there next season.
  • Apparently Marian Gaborik was available at the deadline.  They didn’t receive a good enough offer.
  • Cult of Hockey with more details on the O’Sullivan and Kotalik pickups.  Good work by Staples here.
  • Antoine Vermette won’t play tonight for Columbus.  Visa issues.
  • John Tortorella comments on his three new players.  Not sold.
  • Tom Benjamin didn’t like the Calgary move trading Lombardi and crew for Jokinen.  Don’t agree at all.  I think he’s completely overrating Lombardi here.
  • The Bruins are happy to welcome Mark Recchi to the fold.  Nice pickup by Chiarelli.
  • On Frozen Blog sees a tougher road for the Capitals after yesterday’s moves.  Good points.
