On the Beat

On the Beat: Justin Pogge on way to ECHL, Sergei Shirokov headed to AHL and Paul Mara talks a good game

Today On the Beat, line combinations, injuries, starters and signings.

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

  • Here are the Thrashers lines from practice this morning.  Expect Peverley to drop back with Kane and Armstrong.
  • Jonas Hiller will start tonight for the Ducks in Boston.  Ducks should be motivated after that terrible blown loss in Minnesota.
  • Former Leafs prospect Justin Pogge has been sent to the ECHLLeafs prospects don’t get too much hype or anything….
  • Joni Pitkanen was not at Hurricanes practice on Thursday.  He still may play tomorrow night.
  • Tom Reed likes the Ken Hitchock decision to swap Antoine Vermette and Derick Brassard in the lineup.  I agree with Reed.  Hitchcock has good timing here and it won’t affect Brassard’s confidence.
  • If you want to see a Stars game, it isn’t that expensiveGood on them for making tickets affordable in this economy.
  • Brad May has signed with the Wings, and as a result, Justin Abdelkader has been demoted to the AHL.  Babcock has always loved Brad May, so now he has his man.
  • Paul Mara is a talker and Mike Boone has a good video to prove it.  Love this type of stuff.
  • Jose Theodore starts in net tonight for the Capitals.  The Caps are a Cup contender, but not with Theodore in net.
  • It looks like exhibition sensation Sergei Shirokov is being sent to the AHLHe could use the time to adjust to the North American game.
