On the Beat: Gonchar cleared to play

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:
  • Sergei Gonchar has been cleared to play.  He may be the best “trade deadline” addition of all.
  • Are the Thrashers going to try a defenseman at forward today? It ain’t pretty in the ATL.
  • Sabres forward Daniel Paille will be a healthy scratch for the third straight game. Lindy Ruff’s doghouse isn’t easy to get out of.
  • Bruins forward Petteri Nokelainen has an eye injury. He was playing alongside Wheeler and Krejci last night, so let’s hope he gets better quick and gets a chance to prove his worth with a couple offensively talented players.
  • Dave Staples says the Oilers should be interested in Jaromir Jagr. Staples on IllegalCurve.com Radio tonight at 8pm CST!
  • Jay Pandolfo will finally return to the Devils lineup tonight against the Islanders. He is probably on his way out of town.
  • Capitals forward Viktor Kozlov could return to the lineup Saturday or Sunday. Will be nice to have another talented forward in the fold.
