On the Beat: Datsyuk a game-time decision, Marleau could be available and another group wants to bring a team to Toronto

What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:

Stanley Cup Final

  • Pavel Datsyuk will be a game-time decision tonight.  There have been conflicting reports as to whether he’ll suit up.  My bet is that he does.
  • Curtis Zupke of the OC Register wonders which game you will be watching tonight: Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final or Game 1 of the NBA Final?  Doesn’t this fall on both leagues? I mean, couldn’t they have coordinated to have the games on different nights?  I really don’t get this at all.

Everyone else

  • John Vogl of the Buffalo News figures that the Ray Emery rumors to Philadelphia give him reason to link the video of Emery brawling versus Buffalo.  Who can argue???
  • From late last night, Steve Gorten says that Rick Dudley and Doug McLean both have interest in the Panthers’ GM opening.  Dudley is the better judge of talent in my opinion, but I don’t know if I see either getting hired.
  • The Rangers have signed goaltender Matt Zaba.  Slated to play next season in AHL, had good numbers this year.
  • Another one from last night, as Doug Wilson has not said he won’t trade Patrick MarleauApparently only Joe Thornton and Dan Boyle are untradeable in the Bay Area.
  • Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune expects the Bolts to use their second overall draft pick in the upcoming Entry Draft.  It is too hard to predict the moves of that organization, so a trade wouldn’t at all surprise me.  Especially so if the Isles take Hedman and the Leafs are gunning for Tavares.
  • Apparently another group wants to bring an expansion franchise to Toronto.  Am I missing something?  Don’t people realize you have to go through the NHL to express your intentions and wishes???
