Pre-game news:

Big news of the day was the Jets announcing they had signed Nino Niederreiter to a three-year contract extension.

Notable:

The Jets were wearing their ‘Fly the Forty-Eight’ jerseys for the first time ever. What did you think? Share your thoughts here.

However the era of this new uniform began somewhat inauspiciously as Winnipeg was held without a shot until there was 3:28 left in the 1st period with Carolina holding a 12-0 shot edge.

26 seconds later the Jets inexplicably had a 1-0 lead as Kyle Connor finished off a beauty pass by Nikolaj Ehlers to open the scoring in this game on just the second shot for Winnipeg.

That was the 15th goal of the season for Connor who is on pace for 51 this season.

Winnipeg reversed things things to start the 2nd period as they outshot Carolina 8-1 to start the middle frame.

Nikolaj Ehlers had an absolute snipe as he finished off just a spectacular passing play. What a shot and what a sequence by the top line of Winnipeg. That was a play that left an audible “wow”.

Looked like the Jets would cruise into the 2nd intermission with a two goal lead but Martin Necas wrapped a puck around the net and Dylan DeMelo inadvertently put it into his own net for the first goal against Laurent Brossoit.

Lots of excitement in the 3rd but no scoring for either team.

Netminder Laurent Brossoit made 40+ saves for the win.
