Calgary Flames

Nightly Wrap-Around

  • The Flames have sent three players to their AHL affiliate in Quad City.  Nothing surprising here.
  • The Stars have also cut three players from their training camp.  See above.
  • Chris Chelios could be out for six weeks with a leg injury.  This really isn’t a significant loss for the Wings as they have loads and loads of defensive talent.
  • In Florida, David Booth returned to practice (back) and felt fine. Good news for Panthers fans as they don’t exactly have loads of offense this season.
  • Josh Harding has a scratched cornea and will be held out of the Wild’s final two pre-season tilts. He seemed to have avoided serious injury and that is great news.
  • Ever heard of Anssi Salmela?  The Devils have and he has been very impressive at the team’s camp so far. Brent Sutter isn’t an easy to coach to please, so Salmela must be doing something right.
  • Interested in seeing the how the Sharks will line up tonight?  Click hereDevon Setoguchi just saw his hockey draft stock fire up the charts.
  • The Five Hole Fanatics provide readers with a review of how they think the Flames’ roster situation will sort itself out. I’d say that review is pretty bang on.
  • Lowetide thinks the Oilers finish second in the Northwest Division to the Wild.  That division is going to be really, really close.
  • Kevin Allen likes the Red Wings this season and here is why. Why is Allen defending his Red Wings pick? Everyone is picking the Wings.
  • The European roundup from Jeff Klein of the NY TImes.  Always well done.
  • The Islanders plan to start Rick DiPietro on Monday in Florida.  He is the key to any kind of success the Islanders will have.
  • The Puck Daddy chats with Dave “The Hammer” Schultz.  Very entertaining.
