Nightly Hockey Hits: Top ten worst shootout attempts, Ovechkin calls himself a ‘hit-and-run player’, Playoff wins are a bad stat, homerism gone too far at RDS, Is the bubble about to burst in Colorado?

For all the latest NHL news be sure to follow IC on Twitter.

And now for word from around the blogs:

  • Japers’ Rink:  Alexander Ovechkin says he is a ‘Hit-and-Run Player’.  Very good interview with Ovechkin.  Interesting nugget about the Loonie he’s wearing.
  • Empty Netters:  Looking at Malkin’s staying power.   That was (technically is) a pretty, pretty, pretty impressive streak which looks like it will now be owned by Staal.
  • Flyers Goal Scored By:  Randy Jones – forget the cap.  Flyers making some room.
  • Frozen Leafs:  Leafs turning a corner, a few players at a time.  I too wonder where pre-season star Viktor Stalberg has gone.
  • All Habs:  Hockey, numbers and comedy at RDS. The level of “homerism” that most broadcasts engage in is pretty entertaining.
  • Sen Say:  Is Fisher the #1 centre?  As soon as I figure out what NAPI(o) is, I will let you know.  Clearly based on those statistics, he is.
  • From the Rink:  The ephemeral nature of hot starts.  While everyone waits for the bubble to burst in Colorado, Avs fans continue to enjoy the improbable run the team is on.
  • Puck Update:  Sykora possibly not born to be Wild.  Awesome article title.  (now I’ve got the Steppenwolf song in my head).  Still too early and without enough contributions from other Wild players to say definitively.
  • Cult of Hockey:  Penner says hockey sense more important than weight loss in his dynamic new game.  It’s amazing what a difference dropping just a few pounds will do for your speed on the ice.
  • Hit the Post:  Everything’s coming together.  Like the new Vernon banner over the old one as well.  When will guys like Nieuwendyk, MacInnis, Fleury, Otto, Suter and Roberts join this Flames grouping?
  • Snapshots:  Red Wings’ Brad May lets his fists do his talking.  Refuses to name, names.  Which is a good thing.  Could get him banned from Hop Sings.
  • Morning Skate:  Eric Brewer to suit up tonight.  While he will likely not see a ton of action, this is very good news for the Blues.
  • Working the Corners:  Joe Thornton gets a “maintenance” day and updates on who is and isn’t skating among injured.  Some good info courtesy of the always well informed David PollakInteresting fact about Marleau.
  • Ice Chips:  Catching up with defenseman Dave Babych, a franchise stalwart.  Enjoyed reading what Mr. Mustache has been up to.  Wonder if he and his brother still own Players golf course in Winnipeg?
  • Brodeur is a Fraud:  Playoff wins are a bad stat.  While I don’t disagree with his conclusions, what is it going to take for Osgood to get some love?
  • Greatest Hockey Legends:  Top 10 worst shootout attempts. Those are some bad attempts although I thought Jagr’s wasn’t so bad, since his stick snapped.
  • The Hockey News:  A ref’s life – player communication.  So much of this is treating the zebra’s with respect.
  • Puck Daddy: Jersey fouls.  It amazes me the number of fouls committed at every game and luckily here are pictures of some from all over the hockey world.
  • Frozen War Room:  Photo parade examines the Leafs record, Bruins scoring, new Canadiens, Kovalchuk going on IR and Osgood’s prowess.  Dmitriy has a real nice site that is worth checking out
